Up in the Restaurant there is a more subtle affair, serving plates of food designed to reflect the wonderful local produce. We aim to combine the traditional local pub with a a top-notch dining destination. The Durham Ox is a family owned traditional village Inn offering friendly and efficient service; showcasing the best of local produce in our menu, as well as stocking an extensive range of wines and cask ales.     Tasteful Christmas decorations and ambience. Great service, food excellent. 3 of us had the sirloin steak which was perfectly cooked. My favourite, local eating place. Midweek early dining is great value for money and a great dining experience.

    A "Gastronomic Epiphany " . From the warm welcome on arrival,the friendly and attentive staff to the cosy and historic surroundings, it was the perfect setting to what was probably going to be one of my most memorable dining experiences. We both ordered the fabled "steak n ale" pie with a side of cauliflower cheese. We deliberately abstained from a starter so that we would be able to fully appreciate the main. We were not disappointed ! The pie,gravy,garlic mash and side were sublime. We will be back.

    This was a belated Christmas treat with friends and we had a lovely time. We thought the view from the table was outstanding and the food was plentiful and tasty.
