General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. We went for a late lunch on New Year's Day. We picked Stock primarily because we love the decor and staff. It was a lively afternoon in the restaurant with one quite loud diner near us, but we could converse comfortably. Our waitress was lovely and gave me good direction on menu choices. Other staff who attended our table were equally gracious. We had noted before that staff at Stock strike a pleasing balance of being warmly engaging yet professional. The food was good and service was well timed from start to finish. It was an enjoyable outing to kick off the first day of the new year.
