Cardinal is a relaxed fine dining restaurant from chef Tomas Gormley. Located in Edinburghs historic New Town Cardinal offers a modern approach to Scottish cooking. With a wide range of local and sustainable suppliers at our doorstep, from our Lobsters and Crabs at Belhaven Lobsters in Dunbar to our vegetables and Native breed meats at Free Company Farm in Balerno we’re lucky to be taking advantage of Scotlands unique and unrivalled natural larder. Cooking over coals helps add an extra layer of flavour to whatever we’re cooking on them, it’s more intuitive and engaging as cooks and we feel like that comes through on the plate. Tasting menus are our bread and butter but we also offer a pre fixe 'A la carte' menu.

The Cumberland Bar serves Scottish food, real ale, classic wine and spirits in Edinburgh’s New Town. It takes about 15 minutes to reach its location at 1-3 Cumberland Street on foot from Waverley Station.     Not our first visit but still nice to return. As we live in the West Country. Everything appears easy going at restaurant level and we haven’t been disappointed yet. Would be happy to return and would be happy to recommend to friends and family.

    My girlfriend had been wanting lobster for nearly a year and we couldn't find anywhere for it but she said herself upon eating here "this is the best thing I've ever tasted". It made her day honestly and the staff were amazing! We had a few staff members come over, they were all lovely and served with a smile- I had the sirloin steak and it was perfect, obviously my girlfriend had the lobster and absolutely loved it. Cocktails were delicious too, and it was lovely to have water on the table throughout, they were very attentive and kept the refill glass full. We will absolutely be back, my girlfriend even asked me when we would be 😂 Thank you hawksmoor for a lovely meal, and for a delicious steak and lobster.
