Thomas Makris, from the Island of Skopelos, fell in love when he met Helen Babalos. They met at Orestes Greek restaurant in 1974, while on a Greek dancing tour of North America. Soon after their marriage, they had a vision to open a place like no other in Vancouver; a Greek restaurant where everyone is family; where everyone receives a consistent experience created by delicious homemade authentic food and impeccable service. In 1984 they opened Anatoli Souvlaki in north Vancouver. In 2011 their sons Alexi and Iani took over the restaurant and early 2015 they expanded on their parents original dream, in a new venture with their cousin Daniel Bergman, Alexi and Iani opened ‘The Greek by Anatoli’ in Yaletown. ‘The Greek by Anatoli’ focuses on small share plates or “mezze”.

Opening their first location in the spring of 1984, Helen Babalos & Thomas Makris brought us Anatoli Souvlaki. They had a dream of combining the food of Greece with great service to add some Mediterranean style to the North Vancouver restaurant selection. They opened in the sleepy neighbourhood of lower Lonsdale and lived above the restaurant to ensure the quality and service. They were able to create a North Vancouver staple, a successful thriving restaurant based on faithful patrons and a reputation that has been passed through generations.In 2011, the family-run restaurant was taken over by their sons Alexi and Iani. In 2015, the brothers, alongside their cousin Daniel Bergman, expanded on their parent’s dream by opening The Greek in Yaletown, with a focus on mezze-style dining. Now open in Gastown.     Had a wonderful experience at The Greek. Took a friend for her birthday and she loved it! It was an unexpected surprise to see that they still had the Dine Out menu available which was great considering the items we were going to order anyway where already featured. The portions where HUGE and so filling and extremely flavorful. The servers were great and attentive, and we appreciate Katie for taking care of a couple of birthday drinks! Great spot in Yaletown to grab drinks and bites and catch up. Would recommend!!

    We returned to Selena for the second week in a row due to the fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. Our second visit was equally delightful. The chefs here are exceptionally skilled and purposeful; I doubt there are better chefs in the city. Kudos to the entire team, and we're already planning to come back next week. The wine program and cocktails are also top-notch and added to our enjoyment You’re very happy to have had Josh and Anna there for our second visit !!!
