You will certainly find the best duck confit and beans in the US here, in my wife’s opinion! I had the steak (filet) frites, which was excellent too! Good wine selection, and professional service complete a memorable meal!

Maison was amazing. Our waitress was about the best we have seen. She was extremely knowledgeable and described each dish with the skill of a storyteller who brought each dish to life. The duck is delicious and the steak frites was the best my husband has had. The madeleines which were served warm were delightful. We will definitely be back!

Went on a date with my boyfriend. We were served on by 3 rotating servers who all did a wonderful job of making sure our needs were met and our drinks were full throughout the evening. We decided to let Donnie pick our dinner and drinks for us and loved the selections he chose! We started with the meatballs and the shrimp as appetizers, followed by two servings of bolognese with black snapper and brussel sprouts. Dessert was a lady finger chantilly cream cake with pomegranate molasses topped with pistachio for a nice crunch and nutty flavor. Everything was so good!!!! I highly recommend letting Donnie pick for you, he definitely knows the menu and his recommendations were spot on. Thank you for making our evening so special, we will definitely be coming back in the future!

We dined on the patio because indoors can be noisy, and everything was great. The food was excellent as was the service. We love dining outdoors when the weather permits, so the end of December was a treat, and the patio is never noisy. The prices are very reasonable. 39 Rue de Jean remains a gem in downtown Charleston with a unique character all its own!

Let me start by saying Mike is an incredible host, server, chef, and historian. This was a one of a kind experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique culinary experience in Charleston. While it is not a conventional restaurant, Mike takes you on a culinary journey of 18th and 19th century low country cuisine, keeping things as authentic as possible while still appealing to our modern palates. Each dish was carefully crafted and thoughtfully prepared. The table was full of strangers, but we all got to chat and listen to Mike’s wonderful presentation of Charleston history to go along with each dish. Our specific meal was centered around Legacy families of Charleston, so we enjoyed dishes each family would have also enjoyed. Mike deserves all of the attention and reservations he can handle. As he says, he’s one of Charleston’s best kept secrets, and I believe that to be true because I had a fantastic experience.
