- JJohn and JenVIPChicago / Illinois •145 reviews5.0Dined 4 days agoWe recently dined at Toro by Chef Richard Sandoval in Chicago, and it was an exceptional experience! The restaurant's vibrant atmosphere and innovative Latin cuisine truly set it apart. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. The menu is a delightful fusion of bold Central and South American flavors, expertly crafted with Chef Sandoval's innovative techniques. We started with the ceviche, which was fresh and bursting with flavor, perfectly balanced with sweet potato and red onion. The sweet corn empanada was a delightful surprise, with its crispy exterior and flavorful filling. The lobster roll was a highlight, with tender lobster meat complemented by a tangy aioli. The Cusco chicken was tender and juicy, with a rich, savory sauce that added depth to each bite. The potato 3 way was a creative and delicious dish that showcased the versatility of this humble ingredient. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. The ambiance is lively yet intimate, perfect for a special occasion or a casual night out. Overall, Toro by Chef Richard Sandoval is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience contemporary Latin cuisine at its finest. We highly recommend making a reservation and indulging in this culinary journey.More infoToro by Chef Richard Sandoval – ChicagoPrice: Expensive• Contemporary Latin• Downtown / Loop•4.5
- AArnieChicago / Illinois •1 review5.0Dined 4 days agoHere’s the updated version of your review: My wife and I decided to visit your restaurant after seeing it featured on NBC News' The Food Guy segment, and we’re so glad we did! The video of the food preparation looked amazing, and we couldn’t pass up the chance to experience some authentic Argentinian flavors. We arrived about 15 minutes before the restaurant opened and were waiting outside when the lovely host noticed us. She graciously unlocked the door, saying it was far too cold to stand outside, and welcomed us in. She kindly let us know the staff was still setting up and assured us they’d be "very close to being fabulous" in no time. That warm hospitality really set the tone for the evening! My wife had been looking forward all day to trying the Moqueca, and with her expectations already sky-high from the feature, the dish did not disappoint! I ordered the Black Cod cooked in a banana leaf, and it was incredibly flavorful and tender. To top it all off, we shared the soft-serve coconut ice cream for dessert, which was the perfect finish to an outstanding meal. We’ll definitely be back—I’ve got my eye on the Wagyu Picanha for next time. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!More infoBraseroPrice: Expensive• Contemporary American• West Town•4.8
- JJetzarelyVIPChicago / Illinois •2 reviews5.0Dined on 24 Nov 2024If you're looking for a restaurant that combines incredible food with a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, Unico Restaurante is the place to be. The ambiance is perfect for any occasion—whether you're planning a romantic date night, a relaxed family dinner, or a fun group outing. It's intimate, yet lively, creating the perfect setting for enjoying a great meal with loved ones. We started with the appetizers, and both the fried calamari and patatas bravas were standouts. The calamari was light and crispy, served with a sweet chili sauce that was the perfect compliment. The patatas bravas were packed with flavor—crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a smoky, spicy kick. For our entrees, the skirt steak with yuca fries was absolutely out of this world. The steak was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and full of flavor—while the yuca fries added a unique and delicious twist. We also tried the gnocchi in red pepper cream sauce, and it was heavenly. The gnocchi was soft and pillowy, and the creamy sauce was rich and satisfying. But the real showstopper? The desserts. Each one was not only beautifully presented but tasted even better than we expected. From the first bite, we knew they were the star of the meal. The flavors were exceptional—sweet, balanced, and decadent without being overly indulgent. Everything on the menu sounded amazing, and we’re already planning our next visit to try even more dishes. Unico Restaurante has certainly earned a spot on our list of favorites, and we can’t wait to return for another memorable dining experience. Highly recommend!More infoUnico RestaurantePrice: Moderate• Contemporary Italian• Lower West Side•5
