Formerly opened by Luciano Pavarotti in 1996, Caravaggio still remains one of the firm favourites with the movers and shakers of the square mile. Occupying the imposing premises of what was formerly a banking hall, the space has been opened up to create a gallery which runs around the room at mezzanine level, providing a second tier of tables and creating a perfect space for group dinners and large parties. First class modern Italian cuisine and slick service are all part of the Caravaggio appeal.

    Long time since I last visited. Looks a little tired and the service reflected that. Waited longer than was comfortable for our table, main course came before we had finished starter course. Shame

    Had to send food back twice. Freezing cold inside, awful food, cold, under cooked or oily, terrible taste and below average bits of meat/fish. Only saving grace was the bread and that the service was good and understanding. Really ruined what should have been a nice lunch.

    Dear Jade, I’m sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations. The recent Arctic chill made it challenging to keep our historic building warm, despite adding extra heaters. Regarding your meal, our Veal Milanese has a marbling of fat for flavor, which may not be to everyone’s taste. Your replacement Tuna steak was cooked medium rare as requested, and I personally ensured extra care, but I regret it still wasn’t to your liking.     This is my second time coming to Caravaggio. We were in a hurry. I told them when we ordered. They served us food very timely with excellent service. Well done, team Caravaggio!

    Have eaten at this place for many years and never had an issue before this visit. A client lunch. Had an issue with one of the starters (chosen by 5 of our party.) Part of the dish was overcooked (burnt.) It was obviously inappropriate to complain in front of clients despite comments about the quality from them, but asking us not to complain during the meal, to avoid any embarressment, so instead we elected to complain at the end of the meal after our guests had left. When raising the complaint the waiter argued with us, rolled his eyes several times telling us that there was nothing wrong with the dish and that we should have complained at the time it was served to our table. In 37 years of working in the city I have never once experienced this. The dish was clearly substandard, stale or otherwise and should not have left the pass. The waiter even mentioned that they were busy. Not an excuse to send out substandard food. After a number of exchanges and negotiation the issue was finally resolved and the meals removed from the bill. Shocking. It is a real shame because the other waitresses and waiters were very attentive and polite.

    Went for a dinner with a couple of friends on a Wednesday evening. The atmosphere was really good, the restaurant accommodated my request for a quieter table. We had wine and Prosecco - both were great. The food was beautifully presented and super delicious. I had scallops to start with, followed by lamb cooked to perfected medium rare - as per my request. The plum dessert was great to finish the meal. Couldn't fault the service - it was just the right level of attendance. Will be back!
