Welcome to a taste of history!

Denver’s original steakhouse, The Buckhorn Exchange is located in the city’s oldest neighborhood, just 5-minutes from downtown Denver -- with a light-rail stop right across the street. This National Historic Landmark and Western Museum has been serving the finest in Old West fare since 1893.

Prime grade beef steaks, buffalo prime rib, elk, salmon, quail, game hen, and succulent baby-back pork ribs are just some of the marvelous offerings on the Buckhorn menu. Exotic appetizers such as alligator tail and buffalo sausage are available, and no dinner is complete without the house specialty, Rocky Mountain Oysters.

For lunch we serve up a lighter fare including our renowned Grandma Fanny’s pot roast sandwich, enormous beef and buffalo burgers and more!

This place was wonderful as usual. The Valentine's Day specials were delicious especially the tomahawk steak for two.

I got a Tomahawk steak for 2 that was supposed to be A5 and it was cooked closer to medium than medium rare which was ok. Taste was great BUT it was no A5. Steak was tough and quality was disappointing but char and taste was spot on.

We love Buckhorn Exchange! It’s our favorite restaurant here in Denver. We go wherever we can for special occasions like holidays, birthdays, anniversaries or when we have visitors in town. The food is always top notch, as is the service. Can’t wait to go again!

Overall, buckhorn exchange was a good experience. However, for the price I personally did not find it worth it. Any additions or upgrades seemed overly priced. An entree included a house salad but an upgrade to a Cesar salad was another $8.50. If you wanted a side of sautéed mushrooms or onions - $13. We ordered the fried alligator with cocktail sauce. It was alright. As anything fried typically is, but didn’t really taste like anything out of the ordinary profile wise. Then we had buffalo and elk steaks. They were tender and nice cuts of meat, but in terms of taste, were just like beef steaks. Not necessarily a problem, but if you’re looking for something different or more exotic, this didn’t feel like it. The service was good, fairly timely, good recommendations were made and informative guidance on the menu. I had the Jackalope drink, which was good. And the rocky road brownie for dessert also tasted good, and a nice combo of hot and cold with the scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. I would assume most vegetarians wouldn’t choose this restaurant to dine at, but if you did — options for yall included side dishes, side salad or Cesar salad, and a fried artichoke appetizer. No entree choices.

The only reason I gave a low score for ambiance was because my large party reservation (10) was tucked away by the bright white lights and constant traffic of the server’s area. Anywhere else in the restaurant would have been a great Old Colorado vibe. The old bar area is upstairs and it lends to a cool dining impression once up the stairs! Above all else, the food and drinks were WONDERFUL! A nice Colorado experience!

The whole experience at this historic restaurant was amazing. From the quiet ambiance to the delicious food to the attentive service we couldn't have had a better dinner. It felt like we were eating in a museum withe the taxidermy and historical artifacts, pictures and art surrounding us. And the server knew so much history and took the time to chat with us about it. A rare 5 star review for us!

Had mixed emotions about this place. Great atmosphere, drinks and one of the best Buffalo Prime Ribs I’ve ever had were hard pressed to make up for the service and just astronomical pricing of some items on the menu. Drinks were close to $20, while tasty, were a little on the high side. When a plain house salad is $11.00, it kind of makes you wonder why? Another thing I hate with a place trying to be high end is when they just throw the food at you. Hadn’t finished half of my $7.50 up charged Caesar salad when they were dropping the main dish on me? Let me finish my food! My wife had Beef Tips that were just super salty and inedible, had them take them away but were left on the check! Might have been nice to be offered a dessert for compensation. Would go back for that prime rib and drinks, but that’s about it.

Thanks for the feedback, Thomas! We're glad you enjoyed our atmosphere and drinks, but sorry to hear about the high prices and some dishes not meeting your expectations. We take your comments about service and portion sizes seriously and will use them to improve. We hope to serve you Beef Tips you'll love next time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us so that we can do better. We hope you'll give us another opportunity to exceed your expectations!

Awesome service. Fascinating history. The rooms and decor reflected attention to detail. I shared steak for two. It was very good though I wouldn’t give it an outstanding. The sautéed mushrooms and herbed butter were amazing. All in all a great evening.
