Celebrating its 118th Year, Barbetta is the oldest restaurant in New York still owned by its founding family. Barbetta is also New York's oldest Italian restaurant and the oldest restaurant in the Theater District. This three-fold distinction has earned it landmark status by the Locali Storici d'Italia. In a glittering interior decorated with 18th century Italian antiques Barbetta serves the cuisine of Piemonte, Italy's northwestern most region. In summer, its exuberantly verdant garden with century-old trees and scented with the blooms of wisteria, oleander, jasmine and gardenia make it a most sought-after site for al fresco dining.

The food was amazing, but was disappointed we were forced to order from the prix-fix menu even though we told them we were not rushing out for a show. Service was mediocre at best. Was difficult flagging down a waiter to order a drink. Then when you did catch someone’s eye to order, they said they do not take orders, someone else did. Seating was very tight and fake trees were hitting 2 people at our table in the head. Room smelled like a dirty old mop. That said, all 6 meals tasted amazing.

This restaurant is horrible. Only has prefix dinners. So you cannot just order whatever you want as appetizers to sit around and eat for a little bit. The best part about this restaurant is it’s amazing staff who really wanted to take care of us and make sure that we were happy.

We had the NY Restaurant Week menu and I consider we got a nice meal for the value. I had the garganelli pasta and the braised beef with polenta and were quite good, my daughter ordered the pasta with pesto sauce and she said it was very good. Food is very traditional North Italy well executed. We had a nice bottle of red wine Montepulciano for $55 what given NYC prices was good. I ordered de pears in read wine, this was outstanding, the red wine reduction was perfect savory but not too strong and not too sweet either, the pear was well cooked but still firm. Unfortunately the strawberry’s dessert my wife had was quite terrible, the fruit was inedible. The device is outstanding and the restaurant has a lot of charm if you, like me, love this old school places. The history of the place adds some romanticism to it. I will keep in my list of restaurants close to Broadway for pre theater dinner. I think this is one of the places in Manhattan you have to eat at least once.

Dined here for Restaurant Week 2025 pre-theatre dinner, $45pp. Upon arrival, they ask you for your coats. (The attendant is polite but opting out is not an option!) They also ask if you will be attending a show to ensure will you not be tardy. Decor makes you feel like you're somewhere in Italy albeit a bit old. Staff were all very polite and professional. Not a big fan of restaurant week generally, but was pleasantly surprised with their menu offerings (they give you some nice varied choices). Every thing was delicious! (Had some issues with our food allergies. Staff was very apologetic and tried their best to rectify their mistake). Would highly recommend.

The food lacked seasoning; not just salt but any kind of seasoning. The crab was fishy tasting. I was surprised the staff didn't ask about the fact that it was left on the plate- a sure sign something was wrong! The desserts were very good. There were three tables with customers. The one closest to us had two very loud talkers, which really detracted from the meal. There was no reason for them to be yelling since the room was practically empty, and we had hoped the staff would ask them to keep it down, but that didn't happen.
