I discovered this restaurant on a murder/mystery pub crawl. I surprised wife and carried her to dinner here. Everything was perfect. Our waiter, Parker, was great. I had the ribeye steak and my wife had a cream cheese stuffed chicken breast. Everything was cooked to perfection. The history of the restaurant and inn just add to the experience. Highly recommend and will definitely dine here again.

If you like old buildings, you will like this place. The food and the service was very good. The food wasn't as hot as I like it. We had the fried green tomatoes for a starter. My husband had the salmon oscar and I had the blackened shrimp and all of it was good. We both had alcoholic drinks which were good. This place is pricey but it was a special occasion. I would go there again.

We have enjoyed eating here many times over the past 50 years, and on this occasion (December 18) we were celebrating our Anniversary (#59), and I had so advised when our reservations were made. The ambiance and warmth of the dining room was not as pleasant as in past visits. The piano player was absent (although staff said he was supposed to be there), so no soft background music, and, for the first time, we were unable to have our wedding song played here. We have always thought of this restaurant as a place for “fine dining” and we dress accordingly—myself with a jacket and tie and my wife with a special dress. But apparently this has changed too, because we were the only ones “dressed up”, with tee shirts, shorts, and dungarees being predominant. The consistency of the Oysters Rockefeller was somewhat watery, but the main courses (the salmon and the half-rack of lamb) were delicious, except for the asparagus and the haricot vert which were both undercooked and crunchy. My wife was only able to eat the asparagus tips—she couldn’t cut the stalks. We skipped dessert on the assumption (our bad) that, as on our past anniversary celebrations here, there would be a complimentary dessert of some sort—there wasn’t. Our daughter and son-in-law had given us a gift certificate to treat us for our Anniversary dinners. It had a one-year expiration date from its date of purchase in November 2024. After using it for payment there was a small balance ($10) which remained on the certificate. The restaurant manager would not give us the $10 in cash as change, but said that he could only give us a credit to be used on our next visit. Because we live in Florida and only get to Savannah once a year each December, the certificate’s expiration date (November 2025) would make it worthless on our return in December 2025. The manager finally relented and permitted the $10 balance to be applied as part of the cash tip for our excellent server, Scarlet. We may be back in the future.

My mother and I had an amazing experience! The food is delicious and such a reasonable price! I’ve dined at numerous well-known restaurants in Savannah and this takes the cake. The live piano completed the experience perfectly.

We have visited Savannah every year for the past 10 years. This is the first time we have eaten at 1790 and it is now on our “go to” list. Everything was awesome! Our waiter Jefferson was one of the best waiters I have ever had and the food / ambience was perfect.
